Alexander Introductions

Introductory sessions may be arranged in the local community and farther afield, welcoming new students to the exciting process of re-discovering how to balance their lives. There will be some individual work as well as group observation. A short video will be available also.

Alexander Technique Applications

Looking at easier ways to develop a better balance in our lives. Discovering the importance of the Head-neck-back relationship, or Primary Control, facilitating better psycho-physical awarness. A primary illustration is how we choose to sit — not just the arrangement of our physical body, but the mental/emotional influences that affect the outcome. The F.M. Alexander Technique is primarily about changing habits of mind, secondarily their outcomes — improving posture, or poise.

Put simply a way to co-ordinate ourselves, and our reactions. A way to overcome harmful habits. Recommended for anyone wanting to improve their poise, movements and speech. All ages and abilities are welcome. There will be individualized attention, and lots of time for questions, references provided for books/internet. Brief video/DVD segments will add to the mix of the discussion and participant selected daily activities, along with training more accurate observation skills. Workplace, home, or sports settings may be accommodated.

Alexander Technique Workshops at UVic

February 4th and 5th, all day.

Back pains, stiff necks and locked joints are often the result of how we use, or misuse ourselves. The Alexander Technique teaches you how to eliminate unconscious tension, and how to replace it with mindful and joyful freedom of movement. Learn the principles of the technique, and its practical applications for your daily life. Using gentle manual guidance, you will improve both your sensory awareness and your ability to distribute muscular tension in a more efficient way. Voice and small group work will help to focus on areas for improvement.
